Here’s how the EFOY Pro fuel cell works in a pedelec:

The EFOY Pro fuel cell teams up with the battery that supplies current to the motor. The fuel cell’s built-in regulator continually monitors the battery’s voltage. Should it dip below a certain level, the EFOY Pro fuel cell will automatically cut in to recharge it. This combination plays to the strengths of both power sources. The fuel cell will provide current to the battery for weeks on end while the battery – the storage medium – will deliver peak power when needed as when in accelerating. The fuel cell: a clean way to generate energy

The EFOY Pro fuel cell makes use of what it known as “cold combustion”. Methanol and oxygen undergo an electrochemical process to transform into electrical energy. Aside from electricity, the only other “byproducts” are CO² and water vapor in an amount comparable to a child’s breath.

EFOY fuel cartridges – the clean power source for pedelecs

The EFOY Pro fuel cell is an environmentally friendly source of energy. In contrast to gasoline or diesel engines, it produces no harmful emissions. Instead, it generates electricity from methanol, a liquid alcohol. Today, more and more methanol is being generated from second-generation organic waste or even household refuse. One advantage of methanol is that it possesses an extremely high energy density. A fuel cell can extract 5.5 kilowatts from 5 liters of methanol weighing only 4.3 kg. That’s as much electricity as from 150 kg worth of lead batteries! That’s the reason why something that weighs so little can pack so much power.

The EFOY pro fuel cell works like a mobile charger on your pedelec, continually monitoring battery voltage. If the battery is drained, the EFOY Pro fuel cell will deliver power whether you are pedaling or whether your pedelec is parked outside your home. The EFOY Prof fuel cell continues to recharge until the battery is topped up, which means that you can go for weeks on end and not have to worry about completely running down the battery.

Installing the EFOY Pro fuel cell onto a pedelec

Installation of the EFOY Prof fuel cell requires only minimal adjustments to the electrical system. Bear in mind, however, that the EFOY Pro fuel cell measures 43.5 x 19 x 28 cm and thus is suitable only for larger cycles, tricycles or for pedelecs with trailers. Depending on the model, the fuel cell can go into the trailer, under the saddle or into the storage compartment.
